IC1848: Soul Nebula (sometimes called the Baby Nebula)
IC1848 is sister nebula to IC1805, the Heart Nebula, forming the romantic combo of Heart and Soul, together. Shining mainly in the red light of energized hydrogen, a young open cluster of blue stars is visible above near the nebula centre. Light takes about 6,000 to 7,500 years to reach us from these nebulae, which together span roughly 300 light years. Studies of stars and clusters like those found in the Heart and Soul Nebulae have focussed on how massive stars form and how they affect their environment.
